HEAVY RAINS CLAIM 36 LIVES IN ANDHRA, 6 DISTRICTS ON ALERT
Heavy rains in several parts of Andhra Pradesh, triggered by a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, have claimed 36 lives even as six affected districts have been put on alert.
While 21 people died during the past three days following torrential rains, 15 were killed as lightning struck at several places during the last fortnight, Revenue Minister D Prasada Rao told reporters here today.
Kurnool and Guntur districts accounted for seven deaths each, followed by Anantapur four, Warangal two and Mahaboobnagar one.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhar Reddy held a high-level meeting here to review the situation and announced an ex-gratia of Rs one lakh each to the families of those killed and released Rs 5.6 crores to the affected districts to take up immediate relief measures.
Control rooms had been set up at district and mandal levels and the collectors had been asked to take necessary steps to avoid breach of irrigation tanks, Rao said, adding detailed enumeration of losses to crops and public property were being carried out.
The weather office has forecast moderate to heavy rain at few places in south coastal belt and Rayalaseema regions and isolated rainfall in Telangana.
Six districts -- Kurnool, Anantapur, Karimnagar, Warangal, Guntur and Prakasam -- have been receiving heavy rainfall since the past three days.
As many as 29 relief camps have been set up to accommodate affected families from vulnerable areas. According to preliminary estimates, 7,350 houses have been marooned and crops over an extent of 16,580 hectares were damaged in rains, Rao said.

IF YOU TASTE SUCCESS IN TOLLYWOOD, WILL TEMPTRESSES BE FAR BEHIND?
Success is really relative. Because the more successful you are, the more relatives you have! Anyone who is someone rushes in to bask in the glory of your 'relative' success. And if it is Film Nagar, there are the baaja bhajantrees, called politely in English as bootlickers, who would do anything to hang around with you. Of course, it is not for nothing that they are hankering for your attention. They wait for their pound of flesh when the time is ripe.
You may manage to keep them at bay, but how would one tackle with the biggest relatives of them all -- the temptresses, who will stop at nothing to lure the successful ones with their Page 3 guile and their carefully cultivated oomph and charm? There are only two options: You either run away from them or fall prey to their machinations. And the latter is the fate of many successful filmmakers in the Telugu film industry.
It is learnt that a family of three brothers in Film Nagar, which has successfully carved a niche for itself in Tollywood as producers, is unfortunately caught in the wile company of three such temptresses. Of the three brothers, the first one is reportedly going around with a social butterfly, the Page 3 type. An ex-NRI managed to hook on to the second. And the last, we hear, is revelling in the cosy company of a popular Telugu actor's daughter.
Like every fling, their affairs too started off as one of those passing fancies, but today, it looks like that they are steeped in the "comfort zone" of these not-so-lovely ladies to figure out the extent of damage they have done to their family relationships. We hear that at least one of the brother's marriages is on the rocks. Will the others follow suit? Going by the way, these women have been weilding sway over these guys, looks like it may not be far off.
BOMB HOAX IN NAMPALLY CRIMINAL COURT
Proceedings at the Nampally criminal court here were disrupted for over three hours today following a bomb scare in the four-storey building that later proved to be a hoax.
Commotion prevailed in the court as advocates, staff and public ran outside the building, which houses 35 court rooms, after an anonymous caller rang up the second and third metropolitan sessions judges' chambers at 10 am and warned that four bombs planted in the premises might explode at any moment, police said.
Two calls were received by court staff, who immediately alerted police. Soon after, four bomb disposal and sniffer dogs teams, comprising 15 personnel of the City Security Wing, rushed to the court and searched the building for about three hours but found no explosives, police said.
"No explosive material was found and the bomb threat calls turned out to be a hoax," a bomb disposal team member said.
Officials said the calls were made from a from a public telephone booth.
This was the second bomb threat received by the court in the past one month. Earlier, the court had received a similar call on July 18.

TOO MANY THINGS HAPPENING IN THE TELUGU TELEVISION INDUSTRY
As competition gets stiff, Telugu television channels are forced to shed their usual lethargy and search for means to stay in the race. While the new players are getting ready to step into the arena, the existing channels are not exactly sitting and watching the show unfold.
The scene is really turning hot on the news and current affairs front and the industry is rife with gossip on each other’s moves -- on who’s joining whom and the pay packets. From technicians to newscasters, things seem to be in a state of flux and in the next few months, the fate of many players will be decided.
And with the departure of every staffer, the common talking point is which channel he or she is going to end up with like -- "Is she going to Asianet?" or "Heard he is negotiating with Maa..."
But ever wonder why the Telugu television is failing to throw up new faces to host the ever increasing game and other shows. A few newcomers did make an impression and looked set for a long innings but somewhere down the line they have failed to clear the ground. Hence, we continue to see the same old faces, flashing the same old smiles and coming out with same old chatter being dished out year after year.
Eleven-year-old Kaushik Babu is on the roll. After some sterling performances on different channels in daily and weekly serials, the child artist has also won plaudits for his performance on the silver screen. The Nandi award winner these days is in news for the multi-lingual serial ‘Swamiye Sharanam Ayyappa’ and his portrayal of the title role. The initiative has completed 150 episodes and is marching toward the 200 episode milestone.

WATCH OUT FOR THE RED BAD OF COURAGE, SHAH RUKH!!
Narayanamurthy is back with his 'red' brand of films. And he doesn't care about how small his film is. Nor is ashamed of claiming that his film might get leftover viewers, which means, people who don't get tickets for the superstars' films will come to watch his films.
Narayanamurthy is presently remaking his film Erra Sainyam in Hindi. For most of you who don't know Erra Sainyam did roaring business in Andhra Pradesh when it was released a couple of years back, shocking the wits out of the box-office predictors.
He explains why his film was a big success. "My subject is linked to human emotions. Like Dilip Kumar's Ganga Jamuna, Amitabh Bachchan's Ganga ki Saugandh and Mother India. My subject is how rural innocent people are feeling, how they are exploited by the non-tribals," he says.
Narayanamurthy's film releases on the August 10 and will pit itself against Shah Rukh Khan's Chak de India.
The Hindi version called Yeh Dharti Hamaari is slated for release on August 10, the same day the czar of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan's film Chak De India is releasing. But he is not perturbed. "Shah Rukh Khan is the megastar in India. In Andhra, they call me people's star but I know I am a zero in Hindi. But when thousands of people go to see Shah Rukh Khan's film, there will be many who do not get tickets. I hope that overflow will come to my film," says Narayanamurthy matter-of-factly.

The Washington Convention Center is not a particularly warm or colorful place, nor is it meant to be. It is a blank slate of glass and marble, designed to mutate according to the needs of its patrons, whether they be veterinarians or Baptists. Last week the convention center was transformed into southern India. More than 13,000 people who live in North America and speak Telugu, the second most common language in India after Hindi, descended for three days of song and dance, cuisine and speeches in what is sometimes called "Teluglish" -- Telugu with a smattering of English thrown in. For the youth, there were Telugu karaoke and a speed-dating session.

Addressing the Telugu community at East Home Bullion Cinema Hall, London, on Saturday, he said it was during his party’s rule that Hyderabad was put on the world map with emphasis on education and IT.
As a consequence, top institutions like Indian School of Business and IIIT were established in the city, and those like IIT and BITS Pilani were coming now, Naidu stated.
Many Indians, including a large number of Telugus, were present to hear the TDP leader who is visiting the British capital for the first time.
Naidu expressed confidence that his past 'good work' and 'struggle against corruption' in the State would pay dividends for the TDP in the ensuing elections. Party leaders E Peddi Reddy, M V Mysoora Reddy, Venkata Rao and C M Ramesh, and NRI TDP leaders were among those who attended, according to a press release.

An Italian missionary couple, Gugleilmo Oreste Secondi and his wife, Brigitte Lefebbre, have been selected as the recipients of Sahiti National Award -2006, said award jury chairman Dileep Raja on Tuesday. The award would be presented to them at Tenali in the second week of August. The Tenali based NGO is associated with rescue and rehabilitation of street children.

# The Andhra Pradesh Administrative Tribunal on Friday stayed the Chief Secretary’s orders for sending non-local employees of Hyderabad Collectorate back to their native districts. The tribunal’s order came a day ahead of the deadline fixed by the Government for repatriation of non-local employees in tune with GO 610.
# Heavy rains across India on Saturday left thousands of Hindu pilgrims stranded in Kashmir and disrupted public transport in Mumbai, while at least eight fishermen were feared drowned off the stormy Andhra coast.

IT guys are the 'most wanted' grooms in Andhra!!
IT grooms are back in demand in the country and Hyderabadis seem to endorse the view. A recent survey maintained that the IT professionals are the ones who are mostly sought after with young girls and their parents preferring prospective grooms from this sector. The survey also said that 70 per cent of youngsters prefer arranged marriages.
The marriage bureaus in the city agree that IT men top the ‘most wanted’ list. Fat pay package, better career prospects, and chances of settling abroad contribute to their being so much in demand. Tara Reddy of Reddy’s Marriage Bureau, said, "Even today so many girls want to settle abroad, especially the US. Parents have this notion that once your daughter is settled there, she won’t be lacking in anything, atleast as far as the financial aspect goes. So IT guys fit their bill since they are the ones who settle abroad maximum."
A lucrative salary is definitely the main thing that makes IT professionals the most coveted grooms when compared to others. Also they mostly work five days a week, unlike so many people, especially those from the media or even banking sectors. Antara Mallorkar of Bharat Matrimonial in Hyderabad said, "When the girls and their family look for grooms, they first make enquiry of the family and financial background. If the family is ok, what more can you want from a guy who earns a fat salary and also has offs on weekends? It is 101 per cent true that IT grooms are mostly in demand."
Eighteen-year-old Jenny Singavarapu is also of the opinion that IT is definitely the most "happening" sector and she too feels that it is the pay scale that attracts both the girls and the parents. Asra Adeni, a homemaker and a mother of two said, "Though I would not like to generalise, I think it is natural for parents to go prefer IT grooms. It is reassuring for them to know that their son-in-law is doing well and in all probability will continue to do well in future."
IT sector is also one of the largest industries in the country with a large number of people employed in it. So even girls working in this industry opt for men from the same sector. "Many people go in for arranged marriages with a person from the same field," said Swetha D, a 24-year-old professional working in TCS.
In this rat race for choosing the perfect groom, when the IT guys emerge as clear winners, what do the guys have to say? Debadeep Ray, software professional with Accenture Service, said, "I must say it is quite flattering! Even my mother tells me that whenever she says that her son is an IT professional in some social gathering, parents of girls express interest. At times though it gets irritating to get calls from innumerable people coming up with marriage proposals, I agree its flattering." IT guys, it clearly seems are enjoying all the attention!
