THE WASHINGTON POST GOES GA GA ABOUT THE TANA MEET IN WASHINGTON DC: CHECK IT OUT

The Washington Convention Center is not a particularly warm or colorful place, nor is it meant to be. It is a blank slate of glass and marble, designed to mutate according to the needs of its patrons, whether they be veterinarians or Baptists. Last week the convention center was transformed into southern India. More than 13,000 people who live in North America and speak Telugu, the second most common language in India after Hindi, descended for three days of song and dance, cuisine and speeches in what is sometimes called "Teluglish" -- Telugu with a smattering of English thrown in. For the youth, there were Telugu karaoke and a speed-dating session.

Vedika, new bakra in Simbu's trap?

Muni came and went and it has failed to excite any meditative comment from the Telugu film fans. Like good corporate employees they took the brief of the title too seriously and decided to keep far away from the film like the munis of yore. Lawrence, hero-director of the film, went to town on all the TV channels, who bent over backwards to offer their precious telecast time, but he didn't manage to cut any ice. So sad. But the heroine, Vedika, has made the most from her exposure on the promos and the talk shows. She has bagged a couple of films in Tamil and Telugu. And, wait before you can say aaaaah! she has been going gaga over Simbu. Now don't ask me who Simbu is. The same guy who caused nightmarish moments to Nayanatara with his sadistic behaviour. Poor Vedika doesn't seem to know about Simbu-Nayanatara episode. She calls him a 'genius' and goes to great lengths to explain how 'intelligent' and 'smart' he is. And how in just a week she was able to 'connect' to him with aplomb. Seems another love story is in the offing for Simbu, who desperately needs to cling to someone to forget his old ladylove.

Ravali is getting married ahoy!

She shone for a brief while with some of the B-level heroes like Jagapati Babu and Srikanth. And whoever was there at that point of time in that category. She even acted in some boob-exposing scenes with Nagarjuna in Ramudochadu, and another with Raghavendra Rao. And before we could think of who Ravali is, she faded out of our memory. But fame doesn't allow you sit idle. And so she appeared an an anchor's glamorous sidekick in one of the entertainment shows on the telly. Who cares what the name of the show is? The point is after exhausting all her chances, she has decided to marry. And the guy? Businessman Neeli Krishna from Hyderabad. What more, the marriage is taking place on May 9, that is tomorrow. Let's wish her all the best.
