WHERE IS THE SUPERHEROINE IN TELUGU CINEMA GONE?

What has happened to the superheroine in Telugu cinema? There was a time when the likes of Sri Devi and Vijayashanti strode the silver screen with the dare devilry of any hero. And even actors like Jagapati Babu played second fiddle to them.

They were followed by Soundarya, who excelled in the role of a superheroine in her own way in family subjects. Remember how she stole the limelight even from actors like Venkatesh and Nagarjuna in some of the films like Pavitrabandham and Nuvvostavani?

To some extent, Simran too did shine bright with some good roles on par with the heroes of her time.

But today, it is a different ball game altogether, what with every actor worth his name -- from Gopichand to Chiranjeevi -- has assumed the superhero avatar, reducing the heroine to a prop. We have woman-oriented films like Missamma, but Bhumika is no superheroine in the film, though she gets to essay a wonderful role to perfection.

Is it because the subjects which revolve round real estate wars and faction politics don't have a place for superheroines? It is time to ponder over the death of the superheroine.

ANUSHKA CLAIMS SHE IS QUITE A 'HOT' PERSON IN REAL LIFE TOO

Ask Tollywood heroines which is the best role they have essayed till now, and pat comes the answer -- the film that is ready for release. And ask them why? They say it is very close to their heart, or it resembles their real life. Of course, we know it is all bakwas . They are just saying it to derive mileage for their film. The other day, a newspaperman asked Anushka, how her role would be in Lakshyam, her film opposite Gopichand. "I've put my heart and soul into it," she claimed. But before she could rub others the wrong way, she hastened to add, "Of course, I've liked all my other roles too, but the role in Lakshyam is close to my heart."

She says that "The role is very close to her real life. Whatever I do in real life finds expression in the film. And, even in real life I'm no different either. I am a happy-go-lucky person."

Does she mean to say that she wears all those revealing clothes, for which the film has become famous for in real life too? Those who have been associated with the film say that Anushka looks hot in the film. In fact, too hot for Gopichand to handle.
Says she, "I look pretty in real life too. In films, you should look glamorous so that all the people from the classes to the masses should like me."

Wow that is one confession that we wouldn't forget Anushka. And what does she do to keep her curls and curves in shape? "Nothing in particular, but yes I do yoga," says the sex kitten.

The lady is acting in Don, opposite Nagarjuna, in Okka Mogadu with Balakrishna and another film with Jagapati Babu. In all of them, she is expected to ooze tremendous oomph to make the audience go bonkers. So, wait for the sex goddess to titillate you!!

Not an auspicious start to J D Chakravarthy's Homam

Nothing seems to work out for J D Chakravarthy, or Gaddam Chakravarthy as you affectionately or disgustingly call him. Because the more his godfather, Ramgopal Varma, tries to pull him up, the more his stars are working against him. His new film Homam, with Jagapati Babu and Mamata Mohandas, has been struggling to get off, we hear. Initially, JD boasted that Mithun Chakraborty would be the villian of the film. And, today he says he has dates problems. Is it really true that Mithun Chakraborty gave his consent for the film, or is it just a figment of your fertile imagination to derive mileage for Homam, JD? We don't want to dwell deep into it, but the news is Mahesh Manjrekar is replacing Mithun. Manjrekar is no stranger to Tollywood, he had earlier acted in a film called Okkadunnadu. And, before that, he had directed Vaastav in Bollywood, which fetched Sanjay Dutt the best actor award. And, he went on to do Astitva with Rekha, which was appreciated by the discerning audiences.

Anukokunda Oka Roju to be remade in Hindi

Just as Tollywood keeps an eye on what's happening in the Tamil and Malayalam film industries for remakes, Bollywwod too keeps a close watch on the films made in the Telugu film industry. Especially Boney Kapoor, who is always looking to remake Telugu films. Maybe because Sridevi has fond memories about the place! Boney has earlier remade Antahpuram and Shubhalagnam. And now he is remaking Pokiri, the film that made Mahesh Babu into a supersensation in the south. Following in the footsteps of Boney Kapoor, director Rohit Shetty has decided to remake Anukokunda Oka Raju which was a good film and which earned laurels for Charmi. Shetty is remaking the film with Ajay Devgan, who plays Jagapati Babu’s role, while Ayesha Takia will be essaying Charmi’s character. Let's hope that at least with this film Ayesha Takia, our Super heroine, will gain a foothold in Bollywood.

Ravali is getting married ahoy!

She shone for a brief while with some of the B-level heroes like Jagapati Babu and Srikanth. And whoever was there at that point of time in that category. She even acted in some boob-exposing scenes with Nagarjuna in Ramudochadu, and another with Raghavendra Rao. And before we could think of who Ravali is, she faded out of our memory. But fame doesn't allow you sit idle. And so she appeared an an anchor's glamorous sidekick in one of the entertainment shows on the telly. Who cares what the name of the show is? The point is after exhausting all her chances, she has decided to marry. And the guy? Businessman Neeli Krishna from Hyderabad. What more, the marriage is taking place on May 9, that is tomorrow.
