Slippers, flip-flops, sandals, stilettos, sneakers, boots... , mega-brands of the industry are eyeing a major share of the Indian footwear market and making their presence felt with a larger number of brands.
Adidas recently launched the 'Adidas One' equipped with a 20MHz-microprocessor and a sensor that can auto adjust to running conditions. "It has a microchip and it gives you extra cushion as per the requirement of the athlete or the surface. It is called world's most intelligent shoe," says an Adidas official.
Nike, the leading name in sports, has engineered a new shoe with an in built iPod. "This shoe will talk to your iPod, providing you instant audio feedback of your time, distance, pace, and calories burned," says Shekhar at a Nike showroom. The combination of the shoe and the iPod costs Rs 6,200 plus Rs 2,300.
"We have summer special shoes also which are light in weight and more flexible with a high performance impact protection, every time your feet hit the ground," he adds.
