Can sales of cards be the yardstick to measure Indian kids' love for their dad? May be no. But fathers seem to be on the top after Valentine's Day -- so far as the demand and sales of greeting cards for them is concerned.
"Father's Day cards are the most popular after Valentine's and Friendship Day cards. With buyers in the age group of 17-40 demanding fathers day goodies, the sales are expected to be maximum on Saturday and Sunday," says Manoj Bhatia, Manager, Archies store.
While the kids have pullled up their socks to bowl over their dear dad, it is celebration time for marketing wizards and gift shop owners. "We expect sales worth Rs 40-50,000 in each of the outlet in the country," says Nitin Nayak, Executive Director, Vintage card which has a tie-up with Hallmark Cards.
The gift shops are flooded with coffee mugs, diaries, pen sets, wallets and photo-frames to be gifted on 'the day'. "I am planing to surprise my dad by throwing a small party for him, with a cake and bouquet to accompany," says Ranjana Sharma, student, hopping into an Archies outlet.
"A big hug to my dad and a fathers day card is what I have planned for him" says Ashima, an 18 year old.
When it comes to flowers, fathers stand fourth. "We have our sales go up by 40 per cent on Father's day, and it's a fourth important occasion for us after Valentine's day, Teacher's and Mother's Day," says Anand Kumar, a florist.
